| en_US |
dc.description.abstract | The main purpose of this master assignment is to survey attitudes towards the Jesuit Order in Norway during the 1900s. More precisely; the attitudes shown in the context with the proposition of removing the §2 Bill in The Constitution; The Jesuit Paragraph; Jesuits must not be tolerated". Such prepositions were submitted and discussed by The Storting on three different occasions; in 1897, 1925 and finally in 1956. The assignment makes a comparison between the debates in 1925 and in 1956. This study seeks to illuminate the attitudes of the Norwegian public; imaginations that showed itself in the debates in The Storting and in the press. Secondarily; it also illuminates the development of the state controlled religious tolerance in Norway. A development mainly described started off with the state controlled religious intolerance of the 17th Century and, as in the assignment, ends with the state controlled religious tolerance towards the end of the 20th Century. From the desire of confessional unity to an acceptance of the pluralistic society. | en_US |
