Sammendrag
Secondary trauma is a condition that everybody who is involved with people exposed to trauma, is at risk to develop. Within both research and literature there has been very limited focus on secondary trauma, especially in Norway. The purpose of this thesis has been to increase the focus on the subject by looking in to how executive officers serving in the child welfare system experience secondary trauma, and how this has affected their daily life. In order to focus on this issue, eight interviews were conducted with executive officers working in the child welfare service. They all stated that they had experienced symptoms of secondary trauma. As secondary trauma is not yet a defined diagnosis, it was evaluated as most appropriate in this context that the participants themselves evaluated whether they had experienced this or not. The conclusion is that all the participants had experienced secondary trauma, and it had in the certain periods affected them negatively. They had felt these reactions both professionaly and private, but all the participants expressed that the secondary trauma primarily had an impact on them in their private context. The reactions were mostly changes in themselves and thoughts they had about themselves. The thesis discusses the type of reactions the participants had felt in connection with secondary trauma, how it affected them in relation to others and how the impression of themselves had changed. Keyword: Secondary trauma, reaction, self, relation.
