Ord/Kjønn - ei lesing av Arne Lygre sin forfattarskap

Abstract

I oppgåva Ord/Kjønn – ei lesing av Arne Lygre sin dramatiske forfattarskap undersøkjer eg korleis Arne Lygre sine karakterar problematiserer kjønn i dei tre skodespela Mamma og meg og menn (1998), Dager under (2008) og Jeg forsvinner (2011). Eg les skodespela som dramatiske tekstar, og diskusjonane mine tek slik ikkje utgangspunkt i oppsetjingar av stykka. Eg drøftar korleis karakterane problematiserer kjønn ved å sjå handlingane deira som kjønnsperformative. Dette gjer eg for å sjå samanhengen mellom Lyge sin formbruk, karakterane sine moglegheiter til å handle, og korleis dette påverkar måten dei problematiserer kjønn på. Til grunn for diskusjonen min, gjer eg greie for ei poststrukturalistisk tilnærming til kjønn med utgangspunkt i Judith Butler. I problemstillinga spør eg også etter ei skildring av endring og utvikling av den dramatiske forma i forfattarskapen til Lygre, og om dette gjer noko med måten karakterane konstituerer kjønn på. For å skildre dramatiske formtrekk, brukar eg særleg Hans-Thies Lehmann si utgreiing om det postdramatiske teateret, og viser korleis ulike formtrekk i stykka verkar inn på måten karakterane handlar kjønnsperformativt på. Vidare diskuterer eg aspekt ved litteraturen si eiga undersøking av kjønn som mi poststrukturalistiske tilnærming ikkje kan belyse, men som likevel er ein viktig del av lesaropplevinga. Drøftinga viser at det er samanheng mellom forma og karakterane si moglegheit til å konstituere kjønn. Dette knyter eg særleg til korleis Lygre brukar formgrep som durasjonsestetiske verkemidlar, polylogisk framstilte plott og simultane hendingar for å vise karakterane sin transformasjon som følgje av hendingar i stykka.

In this master thesis, called Speech/Gender – readings in the authorship of Arne Lygre, I am examining how Arne Lygre is problematizing gender in the three plays called Mamma og meg og menn (1998), Dager under (2008) og Jeg forsvinner (2011). These are read as dramatic texts and my discussions will, therefore, not be based on stage performances. The discussions are centred around how Lygre’s characters are problematizing gender, by seeing their behaviour as gender performative. I do this to see the link between Lygre’s use of dramatic features and the characters possibilities to act, and if this affects the way they constitute gender. To discuss this, I explain a post-structuralist approach to gender based on Judith Butler’s works. In this thesis I also ask for a description of change and development in how Lygre explores the genre of the dramatic text as an author, and if this can change the character’s possibility to constitute gender. To describe Lygre’s works I use Hans-Thies Lehmann’s thesis about the post-dramatic theatre to portray different dramatic features in the authorship. I use this to show how these features affects the characters potential constitute gender through performative acts. I will also discuss aspects of the literature’s own examination of gender, that my post-structuralist approach can’t explain but still can be an important part of the readers experience. My conclusion is that the way Lygre uses different featuers in his dramatic texts affects the characters possibility to act and constitute gender. I mainly base this on how Lygre uses elements of a durational aesthetic, a polyloguical produced plot and simultaneous happenings to show how the characters undergoes a transformation as a result of what they experience in the plays.
