Det rødgylne metallet: En studie av metalldepoter og metallurgi fra bronsealder i Hordaland og Sogn og Fjordene.

Abstract

Dette arbeidet er basert på 86 funn fra Hordaland og Sogn og Fjordane. Tallet inneholder hele og fragmenterte metallgjenstander, støpeformer, digler og bronsefragment fra støping. Jeg har skissert et bilde av bronsealderen som en periode med omfattende migrasjon, mobilitet og utvekslingsnettverk av prestisjegjenstander på tvers sosiale og kulturelle territorier. Området Vestland har vært påvirket av strømningene. Funnenes spredning i tid og rom vitner om et jevnt tilsig av metall gjennom hele bronsealderen.

«To the Honour of the Gods, the Benefit of Men» has been a prominent interpretation of the meaning of Bronze Age hoards (in Norwegian depot) in Scandinavian Archaeology (Johansen, 1998; 193-5; Mandt, 1991:430; Melheim, 2006:127). The discussion mostly revolves around which finds and objects classifies as sacred hoards, and which can be interpreted as profane, and the analytic methods used to distinguish them apart. In this study the prominent discussion revolves around the Metal-hoards from Bronze Age in Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane, how to define them, what they contained and what they represented in Bronze Age society.
