Background: The number of adolescent gamers increases annually, though the extent of gaming vary. Furthermore adolescents are less physically active, despite its fundamental health benefits. Knowledge in association between gaming behaviour and physical activity can be beneficial to the health promotion field. Objective: To investigate the prevalence of three different groups of gaming behaviour, and investigate gaming behaviour in relation to three forms of physical activity. Method: The study applied data from the HEVAS 2017/18-survey (n = 3217, 8th and 11th grade), a cross-sectional survey administered by the HEMIL-Center, the University of Bergen. Prevalence was examined using descriptive analysis. Associations between gaming behaviour and physical activity and participation in organized sports was examined using logistic regression analysis. Moderation analysis examined whether gender, age and socio-economic status moderated the associations. Results: One out of four adolescents were addictive, problem or highly engaged gamers; the boys to a greater extent. The group of problem gamers was the largest, while all groups of gaming behaviour were less likely to perform all forms of physical activity than the contrast group. Gender, age and socio-economic status did not moderate the associations. Conclusion: This study contributes to increased knowledge about nuances of gaming behaviour in relation to physical activity. Addictive, problem and highly engaged gamers are assumed to be physically active to a lesser extent than the contrast group, regardless of pathological/non-pathological conditions. Promoting physical activity amongst these groups is a vital area of study in order to create positive conditions of health promotion.en_US
