Nordfonna is a well mapped plateau glacier on the Folgefonna Peninsula in Hardanger, western Norway. The marine location of the glacier makes it sensitive to climatic change; Nordfonna is therefore well suited for scientific investigations to understand glacial and climatic fluctuations. The aim of this thesis is to create a subglacial topographic map for Nordfonna, and over the subglacial drainage basins. Based on collected data, the thesis will discuss challenges related to climatic research based on sediment data from proglacial lakes. Possible natural hazards to the proglacial areas are discussed, in addition to possible future challenges for Folgefonn Summer-ski center. There is also made an estimate of the glacier ice volume. The generated topographic map is created by use of Ground Penetrating Radar. The experience acquired during this thesis is used as a foundation for the discussion concerning the method's suitability for subglacial mapping.
