Sexuality in society and increased exposure of sex and sexuality in the western culture places new demands on the design of sex education in secondary school today. At the same time as there is an increased focus on teaching sexuality, school is located in a multicultural environment strongly influenced by different religions and cultures. This master's thesis is about sex education in secondary school with emphasis on psychosocial aspects of sexuality and relationships. The aim of the study is to understand a selection of teacher student's thoughts and beliefs about sex education in secondary school today and to gain insight into how the new teaching profession wants to face and thematize sexuality when they step into the role of teacher. This project is based on seven qualitative interviews with teacher students that fall 2012 started their third year of teacher training primary school 5th- 10th grade. As a starting point for the study I prepared the following research question: What thoughts and beliefs does a selection of teacher students have about sex education in today's secondary school? Results from the interviews show that teacher students in despite of having little or no didactic training in sex education emphasizes interdisciplinary and comprehensive sex education in secondary school today. Findings from the research project can indicate that the new teacher profession largely emphasizes a differentiated sex education that is integrated into school lessons throughout the year. The informant's emphasis on psychosocial aspects of sex education, particularly in relation to eliminating and preventing misconceptions, normalization, discipline and social pressure, may also indicate that they experience the new generation of pupils to be more exposed to sexuality in society, in particular through media and internet, thus school becomes more important. This is also reflected in how the teacher students wants to deal with the diversity of religious and cultural identities amongst students in school, and whether it is possible to find a balance between teaching and maintaining the individual students' needs, wishes and boundaries.en_US
