Abstract

"Fra enstrengsbass til nettverksbygging" - En kvalitativ studie av musikkterapeutens rolle i norske kulturskoler Denne oppgaven undersøker hvordan musikkterapeuter som jobber ved ulike kulturskoler i Norge opplever sin egen rolle. Studien er kvalitativ og basert på et semi-strukturert intervju med fem musikkterapeuter. Med fire års erfaring som musikkterapeut i kulturskolen, har jeg blitt interessert i å utforske musikkterapeutens opplevelse av sin egen rolle i kulturskolen. I kulturskolen jobber man i et skjæringspunkt mellom pedagogikk, terapi og kulturarbeid, noe som gjør det interessant å utforske dette temaet nærmere. Teorien i denne oppgaven inkluderer litteratur som omhandler musikkterapeutens rolle, men også litteratur om profesjon generelt. Teori som omhandler samfunnsmusikkterapi har også blitt vektlagt. Funnene har bidratt til å identifisere ulike aspekter og muligheter i skjæringspunktet mellom pedagogikk, terapi og kulturarbeid, og de beskriver også aspekter som kan utfordre rollen. Informantene ser på kulturskolen som en spennende arena, med mange muligheter for å utvikle profesjonen videre.

From one-stringed bass to network-building" - A qualitative study of the role of music therapists in cultural schools in Norway This thesis explores how music therapists, working in different cultural schools in Norway, view their own roles. The study is qualitative, and the semi-structured interview method has been used in the interviews of five music therapists. While working as a music therapist in a cultural school for about four years, I have become interested in investigating other music therapists´ experience of their own role in this area of practice. Working as a music therapist in a cultural school, one will have to navigate between pedagogy, therapy and cultural work, a fact that makes it very interesting exploring this subject. The literature review in this thesis includes theories about the music therapeutic role, but also literature concerning professions in general. Literature on the community music therapy approach is also emphasized. The findings identify different aspects of possibilities and potentials in the intersection between pedagogy, therapy and cultural work, and they also describe aspects that may challenge the role. The informants seem to view the cultural school as an exciting arena for music therapists, with a lot of possibilities for developing the profession further.
