The main goal of the present study is, firstly, to approach to some current issues on Central American Spanish, viewing them within both a geolectal and a diachronic perspective, in order to trace, as far as the possibilities allow, the genesis and evolution of some particular features of Spanish in Central America, beginning at the 16th Century until today. Secondly, it aims to contribute to a diachronic study that could shed light on the linguistic and dialect conformation of Spanish in this region. As a specific goal, this study addresses the documentation and evolution of six phonetic features, which today are characteristic whether for the whole Central American Isthmus, or for some of its countries; namely: seseo, aspiration of implosive /-s/, heheo, yeísmo, alternation of liquids, elision of /d / and velarization of /n/en_US
