Sammendrag
The course MAR212 Marine floristics and faunistics is compulsory for master students of the Master's Programme in Marine Biology - Marine Biodiversity, at the University of Bergen. It is offered as a field course during spring. The main topics of the course are knowledge of marine species (algae (plankton and benthic), invertebrates and fish) and of the habitats of marine species. The activity during the course is focused on learning how to recognize the different species. For the benthic algae, about 90 species are on the syllabus list. In order to make the process of learning easier for the students I developed web based learning material for the course during the spring of 2005. The material consisted of pictures with descriptions of the species, and in addition I also developed a number of interactive “Test yourself” files for the students. The files were distributed at the University web page of the course. The students were asked to evaluate the material. A limited number of the students did so, but all the evaluations were very positive.
