David Malouf's "Remembering Babylon" and "An Imaginary Life:" Identity Processes in the Postcolonial Borderland
Abstract
This thesis discusses David Malouf's two novels Remembering Babylon and An Imaginary Life and how they represent the meeting between self and other in the postcolonial borderland. By linking postcolonial theory and border poetics the space in the two novels are dealt with as a borderland. Moreover are identity processes in such an in between space and the negotiation of boundaries discussed, together with the idea of overcoming the ambiguity in the borderland and sense of otherness, through a hybrid process.
