This is a qualitative study that examinates the interdisciplinary relationship between music therapist and health care professions in a dementia care facility. The study addresses the challenges within the interdisciplinary collaboration in music therapy groups, based on two personal case stories. Through an ethnographic approach, the data has been collected by interviewing three health care workers and one music therapist, about their personal experiences with music therapy groups and interdisciplinary collaborations. To contextualize the study, case studies related to music therapy groups have been presented as a part of the ethnographic research. The findings suggest that the term of understanding in an interdisciplinary collaboration is crucial for the music therapist to be included in the collaboration. Within the term interdisciplinary care – culture, there were especially three elements that were seen as important; understanding of music therapy as a profession, understanding of each other's roles in collaboration with music therapy and time and arena to disseminate what music therapy is in a collaboration. An interdisciplinary care – culture is based on an inclusive and trust-based collaboration, where the elements presented above are important key factors in offering a good treatment offer for the residents.
