MUSIKK OG DYR I KOMBINASJON: En fokusert etnografisk studie rundt bruk av musikk og dyr i terapeutisk aktivitet

Abstract

Dette er en fokusert etnografisk studie som utforsker kombinasjon av musikk og dyr i terapeutisk aktivitet. Informantene i studien består av tre musikkterapeuter, én musikklærer og en fysioterapeut. Jeg har brukt deltakende observasjon for å observere dem i sitt arbeid, som har dannet datagrunnlaget mitt sammen med semi-strukturerte intervjuer. Gjennom dette har jeg samlet informasjon rundt hvordan informantene benytter seg av kombinasjonen, og undersøker dette i lys av teorien presentert i denne oppgaven.

Det teoretiske rammeverket er basert på teori de to terapitypene har felles i tilknytning til livskvalitet, slik som opplevelse av sammenheng, tilstedeværelse, mestringstro og relasjoner. Resultatene presenteres gjennom ‘thick description’, som viser informantenes arbeid gjennom intervjusitat og vignetter. Funnene antyder blant annet at kombinasjonen åpner for nysgjerrighet for klientene, samtidig som den gir terapeutene mulighet til å tilpasse aktivitetene rundt klientens interesse og ønske. Kombinasjonen krever at terapeuten har dobbel kompetanse, noe som vil kreve mer utdanning for terapeuten. Studien antyder at musikkterapi kan dra nytte av å integrere med andre terapiformer, slik som dyreassisterte intervensjoner.

This is a focused ethnographic study that explore the combination of music and animals in therapeutic settings. The informants in this study include three music therapists, one music teacher and one physical therapist. I have observed them at their workplace, and through observation and interviews I have collected information on how this combination is utilized by the informants and examine this in the light of the theory presented in this thesis.

The theoretical framework is based on shared theory between the two therapies in relation to quality of life, such as sense of coherence, presence, self-efficacy, and relationships. The results, displayed through 'thick description', present the informants' work through vignettes and interviews. The findings suggest that the combination fosters curiosity among clients, while also providing opportunities for the therapists to tailor activities according to the client’s interests and preference. The combination requires therapists to have dual knowledge, thereby necessitating extensive education. The study suggest that music therapy can benefit from integrating with other therapies, such as animal-assisted therapy.
