Sammendrag
The intention behind this master’s thesis is to explore and analyse the highly fragmented ar-chaeofauna from the Viking age fisher site of 40C-1 on Hjartøy in northern Øygarden. More specifically I analyse context 30, including the sieving sample subsample 8, as well as subsam-ple 5 from context 28. Context 30 is the lowest phase of the fire pit A1221, context 28 is placed right above. I explore the archaeofauna through the lens of taphonomy and the methods of zoo-archaeology, with microscopy, photography and analysed the data within the coding language R. The lowest phase of context 30 contains firstly large amounts of snail shells, secondly fish bones and thirdly mammal bones. Subsample 5 from context 28 contains mostly mammal bones, but also a small amount of fish bones. They are all very fragmented and look like they have been burnt for a long amount of time under high heat. This is especially true for subsample 5.
