Abstract
This thesis explores the technological applications and challenges of museum virtualization in the context of digitization and artificial intelligence (AI), with a focus on its potential for cultural heritage preservation and display. The research delves into the technical architecture of virtual museums, particularly 3D scanning, digital modeling, cloud streaming, and the application of AI in data processing and interaction design. Based on collaboration with the University Museum of Bergen, a cloud-streamed virtual tour system was developed, demonstrating how 3D scanning technology can accurately record and reconstruct artifacts, while AI enhances user interaction experiences. Moreover, the study addresses technical challenges such as data processing, model optimization, and cross-platform compatibility, providing specific solutions. The findings offer practical insights and guidance on how museums can leverage advanced technologies in their digital transformation journey, and it provides a blueprint for the future development of museum virtualization.
