This study looks closer at the American-made mobile application Tinder, that represents the new generation of dating services. They have managed to attract young users between the age of 18 and 24, who previously were underrepresented in more established online dating services. Despite its vigorous number of users, Tinder has faced strong criticism from both massmedia, researchers and psychologists who assert that the application is superficial and judgemental. Moreover, there are several mentions that the emphasis on sex is too large, and that the application is exclusively for facilitating casual and uncommitted sex. This study has identified and analyzed various user experiences that these young adults have had through social interaction on Tinder. This has provided insights into the motivations and expectations regarding users participation, and what level of involvement they have. The study has examined what influence Tinder's user interface and interaction design have on user experiences. In addition, what the users themselves say about the criticism, and what user experiences can confirm or disprove it. The results are based on an anonymous, online survey of 903 informants, as well as in-depth interviews and evaluation of user experience with 9 of these. Participants for this study consist of approximately 30% men and 70% women, where a total of 77% were between the age of 18-24, and several of these were students. The majority, at about 80%, had residency in Hordaland county in Norway. The in-depth interviews were supported by AXE (Anticipated eXperience Evaluation), which is a method that consists of opposing image pairs in order to evaluate the user experience and aid the participants to reflect upon their own use of the application. Participants were asked about thoughts, attitudes and experiences they have had related to their interaction with Tinder and the people they have been in contact with through the application.en_US
