The notion of self-presentation is a well-explored topic. In this thesis, I aim to get an understanding of how five fathers and five mothers with small children visually present themselves through their use of pictures on the social network site Facebook. People communicate who they are and what interests they have through what they post on their profile. This thesis is based on qualitative interviews with parents with children between 0-7 years, where I have mapped out which pictures they present themselves with on Facebook and why. Through applying Goffman's theories from The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life (1959), I have analyzed my findings, to discover that parenthood has become a key element to my informants' visual self-presentations. This shows that the informants identify themselves as parents also on Facebook. Further and broader research could, and should be done to further explore these claims.en_US
