Gingival overvekst ved bruk av kalsiumantagonister

Abstract

Drug-induced gingival overgrowth (DIGO) is a condition that may occur in susceptible patients taking systemic drugs for hypertension (calciumantagonists), immune suppressants (mainly cyclosporin) and anticonvulsants. DIGO may be defined as an abnormal growth of gingiva due to a drug reaction. There appears to be variability in the severity and extent of gingival changes among the patients who develop the unwanted side effect DIGO. This student project throws light on DIGO as a side effect of calciumantagonist-treatment, its development, etiology and pathogenesis of the respective drugs and approaches to treatment based on current knowledge.

Legemiddelindusert gingival overvekst (LIGO) er en tilstand som kan oppstå hos mottagelige pasienter som tar systemiske legemidler mot hypertensjon (dvs. kalsiumantagonister), immunsuppressiva (hovedsakelig cyklosporin) og antiepileptika. LIGO kan defineres som unormal vekst av gingiva som følge av en reaksjon på legemiddelbruk. Det er variasjoner i alvorlighet og utstrekning av LIGO blant pasienter som opplever denne uønskede bivirkningen. Med denne prosjektoppgaven ønsker vi å belyse LIGO som en bivirkning av behandling med kalsiumantagonister, tilstandens etiologi, utvikling og patogenese og behandlingstilnærming basert på dagens kunnskap.
