In recent years, Norway has experienced a historically high influx of immigrants. The research shows that people with an immigrant background have a lower participation rate in the labor market and experience a higher risk of being unemployed compared to the ethnic population. The government’s main goal in integration policy is to ensure that everyone living in Norway should participate in working and social life. Therefore, work participation held to be an important experience of community, freedom and independence. The project can be an effect of global development, and is about how the public helps immigrants with higher education to get into relevant work. It is an important national focus area. The purpose of this assignment is to elucidate what the public does and how to handle the various situations in which they arise. In doing so, I have chosen to apply the theories to practice. About 14 public informants have participated in the project and have elaborated on their experiences and opinions on the problem. The study is based on qualitative interviews where the informants outline the obstacles and challenges they encounter when they are coming in contact with immigrants with higher education. The purpose of this master’s thesis is also to highlight the necessary measures that should be implemented for this target group. The main finding is that the professional public employees need more knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by a highly educated with multicultural background on their way to obtain employment.en_US
