Starting a career as a music therapist can often mean being the first music therapist in an organization. Colleagues and clients may not have much knowledge about what music therapy is all about. Currently there is not much research that illustrates how implementation processes of music therapy takes place in the field of mental health. This qualitative study explores three music therapists' experiences of music therapy implementation in mental health care and mental health services in Norway. Three music therapists were interviewed through three separate semi-structured interviews. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis. Three main themes were identified though the analysis: the workplaces' influencing factors, the role of the music therapist and music therapy. These themes consists of several sub-themes that illuminate the music therapists' experiences. Perspectives from organizational and implementation theories were found to be useful in reflecting these experiences. Literature from recovery-oriented music therapy and community music therapy was used to discuss the objective of music therapy practice. The outcomes are useful for further research in the field and can be highly relevant for music therapists implementing practices in new contexts.en_US
