Abstract

Abstract This master's thesis deals with a music therapeutic research project with a respite care family. The project had an interdisciplinary collaboration with Bufetat, where the cooperation became central to the implementation of the project and the establishment of a target group. The main focus of the assignment is to investigate how the music therapy course can be understood as a guiding process in the work with a respite care family. Through a case study, the thesis investigates how participants experience music therapy and guidance, with a special focus on the experience of the mother of the a respite care family. The study's use of participatory action research as a method, was central to organizing and adapting the practice based on participants' evaluations and co-decisions. Participants from the respite care family consisted of the a respite care mother, daughter and the child in respite care. There is a particularly large gap in knowledge in music therapeutic work with emergency families. In this context, this thesis touches on a new research field for music therapeutic practice in the field of child welfare in Norway. A pioneering project in which the collaboration with Bufetat tries to shed light on the relevance of music therapy in working with the respite care family.
