dc.description.abstractThe main purpose of this study is to emphasize on integration of the afro-Dominican female community in Santo Domingo and their living conditions. Secondly, understand the way them described themselves, and how they include their self-identification according to ethnicity and race. It also focuses on their empowerment, and struggle to be more visible in the Dominican society. This part is important to examine there’s level of empowerment in the society to understand the requirement. At the same time, it will investigate the different level of discrimination and exclusion against the afro-dominican in the dominican society, in relation with the intersectionality theory. Finally, to look at their achievements in the last 25 years in the society both individually and collectively. During this investigation some of the result reveals, that the afro-dominican women confronts a double discrimination in their entire life. Because of the color their skin and to be a woman, the main reason of this discrimination is the society structures and the national politics of the country.The research methods of this study are historical, with a sociohistorical approach of the country’s history, and personal revelations obtained through interviews with afro-descendent women in Santo Domingo. The interviews were conducted by semi structured format with nineteen main questions, with varied durations from twenty to fifty minutes. Qualitative data were collected from 10 participants who shared their personal experience throughout their lifespan.en_US
