Communicating Gender in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention: A contemporary study of gender as a category in HIV/AIDS prevention in the Dominican Republic

Abstract

This study is exploring the category of gender in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention. It has been done research on two Dominican organisations and how they communicate gender in their HIV/AIDS preventive strategies. R.Connell's (1987) theory of gender and power has been used as a tool in order to see how societal gender structures play a significant part in determining an individual's vulnerability to HIV/AIDS.
