This thesis will address the semantic web, not from a technical view, but from a proximity and interaction view reflecting upon the purpose and usability of the semantic web and what it can offer. It is a field that has mainly been developed in and focused on in engineering, enterprises or within computer sciences, for barely twenty years. However, most of the work done in the beginning was in the form of research, and only within the recent five to ten years has there been an upswing in the production of practical solutions. Practical research on how to approach the humanities is still young, as is the entire field of semantic web. Considering the technical challenges of capturing semantics it is interesting to examine how the humanities can benefit from using the new available technologies.en_US
