Abstract

This thesis is an analysis of Lawrence Durrell's The Alexandria Quartet, and explores the relationship between the work's artistic theme and Alexandria as a trope. I'm arguing in favour of a hypothesis that the city is a symbolic reflection of the work's own form, and of Durrell's modern classicism.
