Waste management in Nepal is one of the important topics discussed today. Participation of the community is thus, being encouraged to manage solid waste. My study area is Kathmandu (Buddhajyoti, Chamati and Milijuli, Ganesh and Jagriti settlements in Kathmandu). My paper focuses in community participation in solid waste management in these settlements/communities. there are different projects working for this purpose in these settlements. I used household surveys and interviews as my research tools. 82 respondents were interviewed for this purpose. I found that the communities were encouraged to segregate waste in source. organic waste was composted and inorganic waste sorted in their own ways. However, community participation in Chamati seemed more sustainable as they were encouraged to compost their waste in their own household than other settlements where they have central system of composting.en_US
