| dc.description.abstract | This is a work about the russian composer, Modest Mussorgskij`s songcycle The Nursery (in russian, Detskaya). The work shows seven different recordings of the songcycle and here I write about how the different recordings interpret the cycle. My assignment includes four different chapters which look for differences and simularities in the recordings, and also how the performers in the recordings, in different ways, interprets the cycle. In the first part of this work I look at how the singers in the cycle use their voices and their way of performing the second and fitfth song of the cycle to show a difference between the two roles, Mischa and Njanja. Secondly i give a presentation of my own believe that Mussorgskij introduces a third person in song number six by showing several different musical differences in this song compared to the rest of the cycle and I try to find out if the performers in the recordings share my opinion about the character in song number six. In the third part of my work I continue looking at the same song, but here I compare two different editions of musical sheets, by using Peters edition and the second edition of Mussorskijs Collected Works. I try to find how four of the recordings show different musical expressions, by using the two different, and quite unlike, editions. Lastly in my work I point out the importans of the carefully colleboratory work between the singer and the pianist and I try to point out how Mussorgskij wanted to express the child`s language through a musical work, and look at how the different recordings catches this in the first song of the cycle. | en_US |
