Empowering the Other: balancing on the boundaries of genre conventions in Jane Eyre and Wuthering heights

The placing of Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights into one specific genre is difficult. In this thesis I examine the elements in these novels that make them hover on the boundaries of the generic frameworks, I especially focus on the representation of parody and the unconventional portrayal of the "other."
