Bygdas beste menn? Ein studie av bondeeliten i Sogndal prestegjeld 1647-1707
Abstract
Denne masteroppgåva er eit studie om økonomiske og sosiale skilnader i bondesamfunnet i Sogndal prestegjeld på vestlandet i Noreg. Granskinga gjekk ut på å studere om der var ei gruppe av bondebefolkningen som hadde høgare sosial og økonomisk kapital enn gjenomsnittet. Eg undersøkte økonomiske variablar som landskyld, skog og sagbruk, samt formue i skifteprotokollane. sosiale variablar var lagrettemenn, bondelensmenn og kyrkjeverje. Eg kom fram til at det var ei gruppe som hadde høgare økonomisk og sosial kapital enn gjennomsnittet. da det var avklart, såg eg på om denne gruppa prøvde å halda på possisjonane gjenno strategiske giftarmål. Det gjorde dei. This master thesis is a study og economic and social differenses in the agrian populayion in a local parish in Western Norway: Sogndal prestegjeld in the period 1647-1707. The aim of the study is to examine if there was a peasant elite within this local commynity that possessed more economic and social capital than the average peasant. The study economic capital I have chosen variables like landownership,forestry and sawmills and the net value of peasant possessions. As for variables indicating social I have chosen commisions like juror, district sheriff and commisions to keed account for the church. The results of my study indicates that there existed a group of peasants who combines higher economic and social capital than the average peasant of this parish, and that this group consolidated their position through strategic intermerriages.
