«Jeg en søkende. Søkende et deg» En undersøkelse av det lyriske subjektet i Nils Yttris langdikt Bokserens Blod (1980).

Abstract

I denne masteroppgaven undersøker jeg det lyriske subjektet i Nils Yttris (1947 – 1980) langdikt Bokserens Blod (1980). I Bokserens Blod følger vi et lyrisk jeg i sin erindringsprosess tilbake til egen fortid, for å bedre forstå seg selv og sin identitet i dag. Jeg-et kalles «bokseren» av andre og seg selv, en metafor for hvordan jeg-et oppfatter livet som en kamp. Jeg-et utforsker ikke bare sin egen fortid, men også fortiden til hans familie. Med apostroferinger til faren, moren, stefaren, halvsøsteren og besteforeldrene trekkes deres historier inn i jeg-ets historie. Dette er bokserens «blod», som han bruker som bakgrunn for å etablere seg selv som identitet og subjekt. Blant apostroferingene av navngitte objekter opptrer en rekke kursiverte og tvetydige apostroferinger uten avklart mottaker. Dette skaper en desorienterende effekt, som utvider tolkningsrommet i diktet og destabiliseres meningen som kommer frem i de ikke-kursiverte partiene. Yttri søkte selv å løse det han kalte «det lange diktets problem». Hvordan forene det episke med det lyriske? Det fortellende med det inderlige? I denne oppgaven ser jeg på spenningene som finnes i langdiktet som sjanger, slik det utspiller seg i Bokserens Blod. Til grunn for denne analysen ligger ulike teoretiske perspektiver på langdiktet som form, samt generell teori om lyrikk. I Bokserens Blod forenes det episke og det lyriske gjennom jeg-ets inderlige forhold til sin fortid og sine omgivelser. En fortelling trer frem gjennom jeg-ets erindringsprosess, samtidig som det lyriske språket subjektiverer historien og visker ut den episke distansen. Konteksten for diktsamlingen er sentral; Bokserens Blod er et samfunnskritisk dikt med flere selvbiografiske elementer. Likevel er det det subjektive erindringsfokuset som holder diktet sammen, der alt samles i det lyriske subjektet. Min oppgave vil vise hvordan det episke og det lyriske møtes, og hva det har å si for subjektet i dette langdiktet.

In this master's thesis, I examine the lyrical subject in Nils Yttri's (1947 – 1980) long poem Bokserens Blod (1980). In Bokserens Blod, we follow a lyrical self in its recollection process back to his own past, for him to better understand himself and his identity today. The lyrical subject is called “Bokseren - the boxer” by others and by himself, a metaphor for how he perceives life as a fight. The subject explores not only his own past, but also the past of his family. With apostrophes to his father, mother, stepfather, half-sister and grandparents, their stories are drawn into the story of the subject. This is the boxer's "blood", which he uses as a background to establish himself as an identity and a subject. Among the apostrophes of named objects appear several italicized and ambiguous apostrophes with no clear recipient. This creates a disorienting effect, which expands the room for interpretation in the poem and destabilizes the meaning that emerges in the non-italicized parts. Yttri himself sought to solve what he called "the problem of the long poem". How to reconcile the epic with the lyrical? The narrative with the intense and passionate? In this thesis, I look at the tensions found in the long poem as a genre, as it unfolds in Bokserens Blod. This analysis is based on various theoretical perspectives on the long poem as a form, as well as general theory of poetry. In Bokserens Blod, the epic and the lyrical are united through the subject’s intimate relationship with his past and his surroundings. A narrative emerges through the lyrical I’s recollection process, while the poetic language subjectivizes the story and erases the epic distance. The context and society for the long poem is crucial; Bokserens Blod is a socially critical poem with several autobiographical elements. Nevertheless, it is the subjective focus of recollection that holds the poem together, where everything gathers in the lyrical subject. My thesis will show how the epic and the lyric meet in Bokserens Blod, and how it effects the subject in this long poem.
