By the time Josh Harris and Marty Sampson announced their spiritual "deconstruction" on social media at the tail end of the 2010s, the term was already in vogue and in use by contemporary disenchanted evangelicals. There´s an active digital community deconstructing in form of a host of websites, podcasts, and influencers in active engagement with the term. The "deconstruction movement" as it is sometimes called, has great overlap with another group of disaffiliated evangelicals #exevangelicals, primarily a response to Donald Trump´s 2016 nomination and presidency. In a context where it´s hard to tell where politics ends, and religion begins, this is somewhat expected. What´s more surprising is that some Nordic evangelicals pick-up on the term deconstruction and consume deconstruction media from abroad and feel an acquaintance with deconstruction-narratives. In short, they feel deconstruction is an apt term for their own struggles with doubt, and sometimes deconversion. By qualitative method, this thesis reports the deconstruction experiences of nine Nordic informants, which is analyzed at the micro-, meso- and macro-level and discussed by use of a broad selection of theoretical frameworks. I also propose a model of deconstruction based upon the discussion.
