Abstract
Background: Having Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be immensely devastating for children; affecting life quality, increasing the risk of comorbid mental disorders and often lasting into adulthood. Effective treatment is crucial for regaining normal functioning. This literature review aims to investigate the effect of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) delivered in a brief, concentrated, or intensive format. Methods: A literature search was conducted with the search words: (child* OR adolescen* OR teen* OR youth* OR pediatric OR pupil* OR student*) AND (trauma* OR posttraumatic OR PTSD) AND (random* OR RCT OR single-trial) AND (concentrat* OR brief* OR intensiv* OR treatment-length). In total eight studies were included for a systematic literature review. Results: All the included studies treated PTSD effectively, with very little to no drop-out, and few or non adverse events. None of the treatments delivered the same treatment, but all delivered CBT in a shorter time period (brief), with fewer sessions (concentrated), or with both alterations (intensive). Conclusion: The results indicate that brief, concentrated or intensive format is safe, the patients complete the therapy and the effects are as good as standard therapy .More research is needed to control if changing the CBT format improves the effect of CBT.
 
Bakgrunn: Posttraumatisk lidelse (PTSD) er i stor grad hemmende for barn og ungdom. PTSD forringer livskvalitet, øker risikoen for komorbide psykiske lidelser og varer ofte inn i voksenlivet. Effektive behandlingsmetoder er viktig for å gjenoppnå normal funksjon. Denne litteraturgjennomgangen undersøker effekten av kognitiv adferdsterapi (CBT) gitt i et kort, konsentrert, eller intensivt format. Metode: Et litteratusøk ble gjennomført med søkeordene: (child* OR adolescen* OR teen* OR youth* OR pediatric OR pupil* OR student*) AND (trauma* OR posttraumatic OR PTSD) AND (random* OR RCT OR single-trial) AND (concentrat* OR brief* OR intensiv* OR treatment-length). Åtte studier ble inkludert for en litteraturgjennomgang. Resultater: Alle de inkluderte studiene behandlet PTSD effektivt, med få drop-outs og få eller ingen uheldige hendelser. Ingen av studiene ga lik behandling, men alle ga CBT over kortere tid (kort), over færre sesjoner (konsentrert) eller med begge disse endringene (intensiv). Konklusjon: Resultatene indikerer at kort, konsentrert eller intensivt format er trygt, pasientene gjennomfører terapien og behandlingseffekten er tilsvarende standardbehandling. Mer forskning er nødvendig for å kontrollere om endringer i formatet for CBT øker effekten av CBT.
