Religion på Arbeidsplassen: I hvilken grad, hvordan og hvorfor tilrettelegges det for religiøse ansatte på arbeidsplassen?
Abstract
This study explores the extent, methods, and reasons for accommodating religious employees in the workplace in Norway. As the country becomes increasingly diverse, both secular and religious pluralism are reflected in the workplace, necessitating adjustments by employers. This research investigates how administrative staff and personnel management adapt to various religious needs, focusing on the degree to which religion is considered a factor in workplace accommodations and the specific measures implemented. The study employs qualitative methods, including semi-structured interviews with managers across different organizations. The findings reveal a range of attitudes towards religious accommodations, from supportive to indifferent, and highlight the impact of these accommodations on workplace environment and performance. The research also examines the influence of legal frameworks, such as the Working Environment Act and the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Act, on the implementation of religious accommodations. By analyzing these factors, the study aims to provide insights into the current state of religious accommodations in Norwegian workplaces, identify potential barriers, and suggest practices for fostering an inclusive work environment. The results contribute to a broader understanding of how religious diversity is managed in the workplace and offer recommendations for future research and policy development.
