Sammendrag
The current study explores the complex interactions within environmental, social, and economic aspects within a region in the Amazon region highly dependent on the extraction of mineral resources. We pursue to identify the main structures through which those aspects interact within the region and also with the relevant sources of inputs outside this geographical limit. The structures identified are translated into a System Dynamics model, which is used to conduct simulations under different scenarios, enabling a better understanding about the interplay of those aspects in the region and proposal of policies to be experimented in the region that would induce sustainable pathways and local development pari-passu. While significant insights were gained, the study also identifies areas for further investigation, including the need for more detailed data and participatory methodologies to refine the model and support sustainable local development.
