Abstract
This paper aims to explore journalistic discourse about climate change, as it manifests itself in the written press. Our corpus comprises journalistic texts from six different countries, covering the large international conference on the climate which was organised in Durban in 2011 (COP17). The main section is devoted to a case study in which we compare the use of reported speech in two journalistic texts from the daily newspapers Le Monde and The Guardian. Our working hypothesis is that certain differences manifest themselves in the two texts, concerning the introduction and the textual embedding of the quotations. The examination of this hypothesis helps us detect the relation which develop between these voices and that of the journalist.
