El voseo panameño: Situación actual y actitudes ante su uso

Abstract

El presente estudio intenta rastrear, a manera de trabajo empírico piloto, la situación en que se encuentra el tratamiento de vos en algunas regiones de Panamá, en específico en la mitad occidental del territorio, a la vez que intenta, más particularmente, medir algunas actitudes que se tienen sobre el empleo de dicho tratamiento. Para lograr este objetivo, se realizaron encuestas en las provincias de Veraguas, Herrera y Los Santos, además de dos regiones tradicionalmente tuteantes, como son Chiriquí y Ciudad de Panamá, con el fin de medir la recepción del voseo en regiones tuteantes. El estudio revela usos y actitudes que en buena medida contrastan con estudios anteriores sobre el tema; de acuerdo con estos resultados, en la actualidad se observa un creciente respeto por el uso del vos.

The present study tries to trace, at a pilot, empirical level, the situation in which the adressing pronun of vos is nowadays in Panama, and how it is used and perceived in some regions of this country, particularly in the western half of the territory. Furthermore, this study tries to measure some attitudes towoards the use of this adressing pronoun. In order to achieve this goal, surveys were carried out in the provinces of Veraguas, Herrera and Los Santos, as well as two regions where traditionally the pronun tú has been used, such as Chiriqui and Panama City, in order to weigh the reception of vos in these areas. This study reveals uses and attitudes that to a large extent contrast with previous studies on this issue; according to our results, there is currently a growing for the use of vos.
