Sammendrag
This thesis examines the use of Scots in two newspaper comic strips, with respects to phonological, morphological and lexical features, as well as one sociolinguistic process (code-switching). Scots was used as a written language before the Union of Crowns, but fell into disuse after that. These days, it labour under the problems that it has no written standard, and most of the potential readership is schooled in English. The two comic strips I have examined are not only widely read, but also the first meeting many Scots people have with their own language. The thesis examines which impression the reader gets of the language from the comics.
