dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the present paper is threefold. First, a brief review of modelling, main results, and preliminary conclusions from the DESC project are presented; current capabilities and limitations of the DESC code are discussed. Second, it will be demonstrated how a CFD-code for dust explosions can be used as a valuable tool by industry, consultants, researchers or regulatory authorities in order to fulfil more effectively the requirements of the ATEX directives. Third, some thoughts on the way ahead for dust explosion modelling are outlined in the light of both current knowledge about dust explosions, and inherent limitations in modelling capabilities of present CFD-codes.en_US
