Mediación y desarrollo de la competencia intercultural: un análisis de Pasos y Encuentros1.

Abstract

En este estudio analizo actividades en dos manuales de ELE para averiguar en que medida los libros utilizan la mediación como una herramienta para desafiar la competencia intercultural y el desarrollo personal de los estudiantes. Estos libros se publicaron en 2020, el mismo año que la renovación curricular en Noruega (LK20). LK20 enfatiza la competencia intercultural como un parte central de la competencia comunicativa y el objetivo general de “comprender y ser comprendido” (Utdanningsdirektoratet, 2020c). LK20 se basa en el Marco Común Europeo de Referencias para la Lenguas (MCER) del que procede el concepto de mediación. Este estudio muestra que aunque hay elementos de mediación en los manuales, no hay actividades completas de mediación. Teniendo en cuenta que la mediación aún no se ha convertido en una parte de los planes curriculares en Noruega, esta investigación no pretende de ninguna manera criticar la falta de mediación en los manuales, sino intenta examinar el uso de la mediación como una herramienta valiosa para el desarrollo de la competencia intercultural. Es decir, el objetivo principal de esta investigación no es averiguar cuántas de las actividades en los libros son actividades de mediación, sino más bien enfatizar el valor de la mediación en relación con la competencia intercultural y el desarrollo personal, reflexionar sobre las cualidades de la mediación que podrían agregarse para desafiar aun más la competencia intercultural del estudiante y demostrar cómo las actividades clásicas de comunicación pueden transformarse en actividades de mediación.

In this study, I analyze activities in two Norwegian books on Spanish-as-a-foreign-language (SFL) to describe to what extent the books use mediation as a tool to challenge the intercultural competence and the personal development of the students. These books were published in 2020, the same year as the Norwegian curriculum renewal (LK20) took effect. LK20 emphasizes the intercultural competence as a significant part of the communicative competence and the overall goal to “understand and to be understood”(Utdanningsdirektoratet, 2020c). LK20 emphasize that they are based on the Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR) from which the concept of mediation comes from. This study shows that even though there are elements of mediation in the books there are no complete activities of mediation. Considering that mediation has still not become a part of the Norwegian curriculum this investigation is in no way intended as criticism of the lack of mediation in the books it is rather an intent examine the use of mediation as a valuable tool for the development of the intercultural competence. That means, the main goal of this investigation is not finding out how many of the activities in the books are mediation activities, even though that is an important part of it. The main goal is rather to emphasize the value of mediation related to the intercultural competence and the personal development, reflect upon the qualities of mediation that could be added to challenge the intercultural competence to a larger extent, and to demonstrate how classic communication activities can be transformed into mediation activities.
