Norway's trade with Peru has seen an increase in the amount of fish oil and alpaca wool imported in the last two decades. This thesis looks at the historical development of this trade as well as the extent to which the companies involved in it have focused and focus on Corporate Social Responibility (CSR). The work is first and foremost based on qualitative interviews with various Norwegian companies and one Peruvian company that operate with alpaca wool and fish oil, to map their CSR initiatives. Moreover, through a quantitative analysis of data from Statistisk Sentralbyrå, I was able to map the history of the trade of these two goods between Norway and Peru. This data is compared with other significant events in and between these countries. For example, the signing of the EFTA agreement, fashion trends, and consumer demands all played a role in the development of the trade. In addition, it is increasingly important for businesses to plan and implement social and environmental initiatives in their operations as imports increase. Companies in Norway have a reputation for having a normative spotlight on corporate social responsibility, where a foreign context is emphasized instead of a local one. It turns out that some of them still have a normative focus, while others also have a local focus. One of the companies that have contributed to this thesis is completely unaware of collective action institutions like the Global Compact and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). However, these institutions seem to receive increasing attention and some of the other companies are very much involved in this type of collective action institutions. Furthermore, this thesis can serve as a starting point to compare the strategies in these two industries with those of other industries, possibly from other countries.
