"Some Collaboration Has to Take Place in the Mind": Androgyny and Creative Dialogue in Three Works by Virginia Woolf

Abstract

This thesis explores Virginia Woolf's concept of creative androgyny as it is conveyed in three of her works: A Room of One's Own, Mrs Dalloway and To the Lighthouse. My reading explores the 'androgynous vision' from a Bakhtinian perspective, seeing it as metaphorical of dialogue and thus an ethical as well as aesthetic principle.
