American voseo is an exclusive phenomenon of American Spanish. Although frequently related to countries such as Argentina or Costa Rica (Benavides, 2003, p. 612), it exists in some way in all of Spanish America, if one excludes the Antilles (Quesada Pacheco, 2010, p. 105). The present paper intents to present the relatively little studied situation of voseo in the province of Los Santos in Panama, a country that more frequently uses the pronoun tú. In order to achieve this objective, 60 interviews were carried out in the province located in the Azuero Peninsula. The collected data show a significant frequency of the use of the pronoun vos. Nevertheless, at the same time, they indicate that voseo is in a complicated situation. It is well known in the region, but it is not used in all social contexts, and it is not used by all the interviewees. Especially, in education the pronouns tú and usted are preferred to vos and its corresponding verbal forms. However, in some parts of the province it seems like it is accepted in the education. Lastly, the results seem to show a certain difference in the use of the pronoun with regard to the social variables gender and age.
